Welcome to “Why is Music Important?” Each month, I interview my favorite music educators and musicians to discuss the positive benefits of music education and provide parents with practical tips for integrating music into their children’s everyday lives.
This week, I sat down with Miss Kim’s Children’s Music to answer precisely that question: Why is music important?
Why is Music Important? Miss Kim & Brian Connect
I first met Miss Kim through Berklee College of Music, where we were enrolled in Chords 101. We hit it off immediately. In fact, we both specialize in music for kids, we both own award-winning small businesses, and we both struggled like crazy to learn more than 960 guitar chords in 12-weeks! No, that is not a typo!
Why is Music Important? Miss Kim’s Children’s Music
Miss Kim’s music has been regularly featured in television, film, and her own CDs. Her children’s album, “Growing Up Great,” won a 2020 National Parenting Award. Although she wrote it over the course of seven months during the pandemic lockdown, Miss Kim has been writing, recording, and performing for more than 27-years.
Miss Kim’s Musical Philosophy: Morals, Movement, and Motivation
Miss Kim summarizes her musical philosophy in four words: morals, movement, motivation, and fun. She believes music can be a great way to teach kids positive values, get them moving, and motivate them to learn.
“Unfortunately, the world that we live in is trying to mold these kids into being little geniuses. What we often miss in that process is having fun!”
