Online Rock Guitar Lessons for Kids

The Rock Dojo is an award-winning, minority-owned, husband and wife team dedicated to providing kids with the best online guitar lessons! At the Rock Dojo, we believe in the positive power of guitar for kids! Rock Dojo has been teaching children how to rock out on the guitar in the Portland Public School District since 2015. Research shows children who engage in music education have improved language skills, math skills, and self-esteem. At the same time, rocking out on the guitar is sheer fun!

What Do Students Learn with Rock Dojo Online Guitar Lessons?

Guitar lessons for kids have gotten a bad rap over the years because they were so dang boring! In the past, teachers forced students to read through dots on a page, play through dreadful technical exercises, or learn ancient songs. Rock Dojo decided to change all that.

Rock Dojo’s Award-Winning Online Guitar Lessons for Kids

Inspired by the martial arts belt system, Rock Dojo rewards students for their hard work and effort with Rock Dojo’s proprietary belt system. Students begin at the white belt lesson progressing through five levels of guitar curriculum represented by the colors white, yellow, green, red, and black. In addition, kids learn real music that actually rocks right from the start.

What Do Students Learn at the White Belt Level?

By the end of eight weeks, students learn musical literacy skills, fundamental guitar techniques, and eight classic rock songs they can perform for their family and friends.

What Do Students Learn at the Yellow Belt Level?

By the end of eight weeks, students learn the note names on the E & A strings, open chords, and movable power chords so that they can play hundreds of songs for their family and friends. Since “Let Me Hear Your Fingers Sing (At the Rock Dojo)” is built around those concepts, they have the technical ability to play the rhythm guitar parts for this song by the time they graduate the yellow belt.

What Do Students Learn at the Green Belt Level?

The green belt is all about chords and strumming. By the time students graduate from the green belt, they have the skills to strum their way through thousands of popular songs from “Good Riddance” to “Let it Be.”

What Do Students Learn at the Red Belt Level?

Students learn to play through and improvise over the twelve-bar blues because it’s foundational to rock music. By the end of the eight weeks, students learn three must-know rock guitar licks, two complete solos note-for-note, and how to mix and match guitar licks to create authentic-sounding guitar solos.

What Do Students Learn at the Black Belt Level?

Students unlock the fretboard at the black belt level. Students at the black belt level have the tools to play scales, chords, and melodies across the fretboard, so they’re no longer limited to just one area of the guitar neck!
