About Elijah & the Sacred Song
“Elijah & the Sacred Song” tells the story of siblings Elijah and Destiny, who live in a dystopian future and train in martial arts to defeat the ancient god of metal music, Ahriman. When Elijah discovers a magical music book, he realizes that metal music, not martial arts, holds the key to defeating Ahriman. After Destiny accidentally summons Ahriman, the Lord of Destruction scatters the book’s fragments across his many worlds of terror. The siblings embark on a thrilling journey to recover the magical book, battle Ahriman, and save their world.
Brian Parham’s Success
Brian Parham, the founder of Rock Dojo, an award-winning after-school guitar program, is showcasing his artistic versatility as a top five finalist in the Live and In Color Musical Theater Competition. Parham, best known for his work as a guitar instructor, has stunned his audience by entering the world of playwriting with his first-ever play, “Elijah & the Sacred Song,” and achieving remarkable success.

The musical has already earned Parham a 2023 IFCC Artist-in-Residency, a 2023 Multnomah County Cultural Coalition Grant, a 2023 Awesome Foundation Grant, and now, becoming a finalist in the prestigious Live and In Color competition. This competition seeks plays “bound for commercial success” and is dedicated to promoting diversity and inclusion in all aspects of the theater industry.

The production of “Elijah & the Sacred Song” is supported by Live & In Color, a creative incubator that nurtures new plays and musicals bound for commercial success. They focus on diversity and inclusion in all aspects of the theater industry, both on and off stage, with the vision of a new American Theatre where diversity and inclusion are interwoven into its fabric.
The Competition
The competition winner will receive various development opportunities, including readings, workshops on new work, paid commissions, and a two-week workshop experience in Connecticut. A diverse team of artists gathers to focus on building a new musical without distractions or pressures from the industry.
