Three Power Tips for Super Music Teachers

Three Power Tips for Super Music Teachers

The school year is about to kick off. The kids are ready to rock, and you’re on the starting blocks, rested, relaxed, and ready to change the world one music class at a time.

But even everyday heroes need strategies to maintain their super powers during the school year, so I put together three tips to help you stay strong from the first day of class to the final performance.

1. Savor the Flavor of a Healthy Lunch Break

Pack a delicious and nutritionally balanced meal with a healthy blend of proteins, fats, and carbohydrates. After a delicious meal, go for a walk, find a quiet space to relax, and close your eyes for a moment.

2. Stretch

Without a doubt, teaching music is hard work! From classroom management to school recitals to personal practice routines, life as a music teacher can take its toll on the body. That’s why you should set aside some time each day to combat slumping shoulders and lower back pain with yoga, the Alexander Technique, or a simple stretching routine.

3. Positive Visualization

Positive visualization techniques are a powerful tool for fighting apathy, optimizing your classroom experience, and reaching your goals this school year.  To get started, sit in a comfortable position, close your eyes, and imagine in as vivid detail as possible teaching the perfect class, leading the ideal recital, or inspiring a classroom full of students with a flawless musical performance.
